The astronomy & astrophysics program at WSU is part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Students in astronomy and physics share a common learning environment and many of the same courses. The program's research-active astronomers mentor 100% of astrophysics undergraduates in hands-on research projects.

The nucleus of the astrophysics program faculty is a group consisting of Dr. Sukanta Bose, Dr. Mathew Duez, Dr. Guy Worthey, Dr. Michael Allen, and adjunct professors Frederick Raab, head of LIGO Hanford and John Blakeslee, astronomer at the Hertzburg Institute of Astrophysics. Postdoctoral researchers, undergraduate and graduate student researchers, physics faculty, outreach coordinator, and support staff complete the astrophysics program.
